Technology

Thermally protected varistors - Mechanical release type (TFMOV) are thermally protected varistors that have all the characteristics of a thermistor (MOV) with a thermal protection function. TFMOVs have all the characteristics of a thermally protected varistor (MOV), but with the added benefit of thermal protection.MOVs are subject to two types of deterioration: natural deterioration due to long term operation, and deterioration due to abnormal surges. When a surge occurs, the leakage current of the degraded MOV increases continuously, causing the surface temperature of the MOV to rise continuously and the possibility of fire. At this time, the heat of the MOV in the TFMOV is transferred to the cryogenic alloy solder joint, which senses the abnormal temperature and acts (fuses), driving the spring slider to cut off the circuit, disconnecting the MOV from the main circuit to protect the entire circuit, and the MOV itself will not continue to heat up and catch fire.
